Healing with Sacred Touch: What is Cuddle and Rope Therapy

Updated: Sep 18, 2025

People hug under a rainbow flag at a pride event, one holding a drink. Vibrant colors, joyful mood, bus and trees in the background.

What is Sacred Touch

Sacred Touch is an approach to somatic-based healing using non-sexual touch. I use cuddle and rope therapy rooted in trauma-informed care and my ancestral practice of curanderismo. My work focuses on creating a safe, consensual, and nurturing space where emotional, somatic, and spiritual healing can occur. All services are strictly non-sexual. My practice centers on emotional and spiritual support, nervous system regulation, grounding, and human connection. I follow clear professional boundaries that allow us to maintain a supportive-based relationship with your needs at the center.

What is cuddle therapy?

Cuddle therapy is a professional service using non-sexual touch to promote relaxation, emotional support, and connection. Platonic touch is a powerful tool for releasing oxytocin, the "bonding" hormone. This "feel-good" hormone can help lower stress and anxiety, increase feelings of safety and connection, and even activate the parasympathetic nervous system- the part of the body response for rest, digestion, and emotional repair. Professional cuddling is different from other forms of cuddling, such as romantic or platonic, because of the intentional focus of connection, presence, and consent all based on your unique goals and needs.

What is rope therapy?

Rope therapy is a gentle, therapeutic practice using rope to foster connection, relaxation, and emotional release. Rope therapy integrates rope work with a trauma-informed touch therapy practice to co-create a non-sexual rope session. These sessions are designed to reconnect the body, breath, and internal sense of self.

Rope is intentionally used through simple holds, wraps, or harnesses to apply comforting and secure pressure to the body. This sensation helps regulate the nervous system, promote mindfulness, and gently explore trusts and surrender. Rope therapy carries risks cuddle therapy doesn't. I practice the following to mitigate risk involved with rope:

  • All rope work is done on the floor or a wide seated space to prevent falling.

  • We check the tension/tightness of the hold through the session.

  • I tie with moderate tension and over clothing to reduce rope marks.

  • Conversation and consent on what ties you would like, your limits, boundaries, and what to do if you want out of the tie.

What ancestral practices do you use?

Curanderismo is a traditional healing practiced rooted in Indigenous, African, and Spanish traditions. In the introduction to Woman Who Glows in the Dark by Elena Avila, Clarissa Pinkola Estes writes that curanderismo "does not separate the soul and spirit from the body. It is medicine and spirituality practiced simultaneously." The center of the healing practice in curanderismo is the relationship between the healer and those they work with. This is why I take the time to explore what your goals for cuddle or rope therapy are, where in the body you're carrying your emotional experiences, and what types of teach invite connection and release for you. I may integrate, always with your consent, practices such as limpias (energy healing), prayer, guided visualization, or breathwork among other tools.

I'm also open to including tools or practices from your culture that are supportive of your needs. We can discuss what this would look like prior to your session.

How do I know if cuddle or rope therapy is for me?

Cuddle and rope therapy is for anyone seeking a safe, nurturing, and healing environment to experience human connection. People of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences are welcome. Cuddle or rope therapy may be particularly beneficial to you if you're a tactile or sensory person, if you're looking for a non-traditional approach to healing, or if you simply enjoy safe and consensual human connection.
